Aston Abbotts - Best Kept Village

Aston Abbotts has won the Gurney Cup for the Best Kept Buckinghamshire Village in our category - villages with less than 500 residents!

Aston Abbotts scored 94 out of a maximum of 100 points, with judges comments including :

"The churchyard is excellent, beautifully and sensitively maintained with a lovely wildflower meadow.

"The church noticeboard is a little scruffy. The village hall noticeboard, despite not displaying a Best Kept Village poster, was very good.

"The village hall itself is kept in good condition with fresh paintwork.

"The bus shelters were tidy and in good order.

2The recreation ground was also excellent with a good children's play area. Trees had been planted and the seat and planter at the far side all showed that care is taken.

"A real effort throughout the village had been made with floral displays and planters and the verges were tidy. It is evident that the community takes a real pride in the village.

"Overall Aston Abbotts is very deserving of its high mark and is a worthy winner.”

This is the wonderful result of all villagers having real pride in our village and being inspired and motivated by Chris Phillips who led the effort.
Well done everybody!

Aston Abbotts Fete - Saturday 20th July

A date for your diary! The Aston Abbotts Village Fete will be taking place on Saturday 20th July. Fingers crossed for a fine sunny day, as we're looking forward to sack races, tug of wars and lots of animals to pet!
If you're able to donate a few hours of your time to help set up, help out on a stall or help organise in other ways, we would love to hear from you.
Given the vast amount of support that the people in the village have always shown the fete, we would like to make sure that the fete supports those in the village too... If you have a small business and would like a stall to sell your wares, please get in touch! And if you don't have wares to sell, but would like to sponsor the fete / an activity, let's talk.
Thanks to everyone who has already confirmed they can help, and as always, for your support!
Best wishes,
Ali

Royal Oak to be sold?

AVDC have been informed that The Royal Oak, Aston Abbotts' only pub, is to be put up for sale. The pub has been run by Teri and Gary Moult for over 25 years.

Aston Abbotts Parish Council registered the pub as a Community Asset around three years ago and this means that a six week window has started for a local community group to register an interest in bidding for the pub under the Community Right To Bid scheme. The deadline for registering interest is the 13th February 2019.

If no local community group registers and interest with AVDC, which does not mean a commitment to bid, the pub can be sold on the open market. It is sad to think that the future of the Royal Oak, so long a part of Aston Abbotts, could now be in doubt.
